stain removal foam mattress

A stain on a foam mattress can be a headache for many homeowners and individuals. While most sheets and bedding can be washed, it’s impossible to put a foam mattress in a washing machine without damaging it. The following guide provides simple tips for removing stains from foam mattresses.

A stain on a foam mattress can usually be removed with a mixture of baking soda and warm water. One part baking soda should be added to five parts water, then mixed. After allowing all the baking soda to dissolve in the warm water, pour a small amount of this solution over the stain. Allow it to sit for at least ten minutes. Using a vacuum cleaner, suck up all the liquid surrounding the stain. The stain should lift out of the foam mattress.

Some types of stains can be more difficult to remove. Acetone is a powerful solvent and can be effective at removing many types of stains. A five to one mixture of water and acetone can be applied directly to a stain. Allow it to sit for at least five minutes, then blot to remove. Acetone will evaporate over time, so it isn’t necessary to remove all the liquid from the foam mattress.

A thin memory foam mattress may be completely permeable to water. It’s often possible to run warm water through a mattress pad. This is a good way to remove any solid stains from a mattress.
